'Fight Back' Against Parkinson's Disease with
Rock Steady Boxing Vancouver
What is Rock Steady Boxing?
Rock Steady Boxing (RSB) was founded in 2006 in Indianapolis. RSB’s founder, Scott Newman, was diagnosed with Parkinson’s at age 39. He discovered that non-contact boxing training lessened his symptoms. Word of this program spread quickly and in 2012, the ‘Affiliate’ program was created with the goal of spreading boxing training for Parkinson’s internationally. RSB now has over 700 affiliates world wide helping people with Parkinson’s to 'Fight Back'. At Rock Steady, Parkinson’s is our opponent.
Our boxers train to improve their overall fitness and strength, speed, balance, agility, reaction time, hand-eye coordination, mental focus, and range of motion. Our non-contact boxing classes help Vancouverites with Parkinson’s to address these symptoms in a fun, stress-relieving, non-clinical environment.
At Rock Steady Boxing Vancouver, we not only work to improve your physical abilities, but also work on cognitive, breathing and voice exercises throughout our classes. We always make it functional, and we always bring the FUN factor.
Who Can Box With Us?
Men and women of all ages and all stages of Parkinson's are welcome to participate. Classes are modified to each boxers' needs and abilities. NO prior boxing experience is needed.
Each boxer must participate in an intake assessment (approx. 1 hour) with our head coach so we can learn about your strengths and limitations to ensure we meet your needs in our classes. This also allows us to determine your correct class level placement and obtain a baseline of your functional status, which we can then monitor over time.
What Are You Waiting For?
The Rock Steady Method has proven that anyone, at any level of Parkinson’s, can lessen their symptoms, delay the progression of their disease, and improve their overall quality of life.
Call or e-mail us today to meet with our coach, watch a class in action, or schedule your intake assessment. Together we can “Fight Back” against Parkinson's, Vancouver!
